A major search and rescue operation is underway after a passenger was reported missing from the Carnival Splendor while traveling along the east coast of Queensland, Australia.
According to Carnival Cruise Line, the alarm was raised when the man’s family could not locate him and alerted crew members. A review of onboard CCTV footage reportedly showed the passenger climbing over a safety railing and going overboard as the ship sailed from Moreton Island toward Sydney overnight.
Emergency services were quickly notified, and search efforts are currently focused on waters approximately 53 kilometers east of Moreton Island, near Brisbane. Authorities are working in coordination with the ship’s crew as part of the ongoing operation.
Carnival Cruise Line confirmed it is cooperating fully with investigators and will continue to assist authorities following the ship’s return to Sydney. The company also stated that its Care Team is providing support to the passenger’s family during this difficult time.
The incident remains under investigation, and further updates may be released as search efforts continue.
