Juha Miettinen has died following a devastating multi-car crash during a race at the Nürburgring in Germany.
The fatal incident occurred on April 18, 2026, during the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) event, specifically the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers. A seven-car collision took place in the early stages of the race, prompting officials to immediately halt the event with a red flag to allow emergency responders to intervene.
According to organizers, Miettinen was extracted from his BMW 325i and transported to the on-site medical center. Despite rapid response efforts and attempts at resuscitation, he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Six other drivers involved in the crash were taken to the medical center and nearby hospitals for precautionary evaluations. Officials confirmed that none of the other competitors sustained life-threatening injuries.
The race was suspended following the incident, and organizers announced that it would not resume that evening. A moment of silence is expected to be held in Miettinen’s honor before the next scheduled race.
The event had drawn additional attention due to the participation of Max Verstappen, though the focus has now shifted to mourning the loss of a competitor and reflecting on the risks of motorsport.
Authorities and race officials are expected to review the circumstances surrounding the crash as part of standard procedure.
