A homeowner in Houston, Texas, shot an intruder during an early morning home invasion on Sunday, according to authorities.
Officers with the Houston Police Department responded to a call around 2 a.m. at a residence in the 300 block of Truman Street. Investigators say the homeowner was inside the house when a man forcibly entered the property.
According to police, the homeowner retrieved a firearm and shot the suspect once during the encounter. The intruder was transported to a nearby hospital by emergency responders and is reported to be in stable condition. The homeowner was not injured.
Authorities believe the incident began when the suspect crashed his vehicle nearby before allegedly jumping a fence and breaking into the home by smashing a door window. At this time, investigators say there is no indication that the homeowner and the suspect knew each other.
No charges have been filed as officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the suspect’s motive.
